Atlanta, GA-based Southern Company is one of the largest utilities in the United States. The company deals with the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. Southern Company serves approximately nine million customers in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, and other states, through several wholesale and retail electric and natural gas distribution units, with aggregate generating capacity of 46,000 megawatts, approximately 200,000 miles of electric transmission and distribution lines, with more than 80,000 miles of natural gas pipelines.
