Sub-Saharan Africa Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions 1990-2025

Sub-Saharan Africa greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2020 was 2,258,595.51, a 1.5% decline from 2019.
  • Sub-Saharan Africa greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2019 was 2,293,075.25, a 2.65% increase from 2018.
  • Sub-Saharan Africa greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2018 was 2,233,899.52, a 1.77% increase from 2017.
  • Sub-Saharan Africa greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2017 was 2,195,008.75, a 1.15% increase from 2016.
Total greenhouse gas emissions in kt of CO2 equivalent are composed of CO2 totals excluding short-cycle biomass burning (such as agricultural waste burning and Savannah burning) but including other biomass burning (such as forest fires, post-burn decay, peat fires and decay of drained peatlands), all anthropogenic CH4 sources, N2O sources and F-gases (HFCs, PFCs and SF6).
