The company operates through the following segments, namely Exploration and Production and Other, Pipeline and Storage and Gathering, and Utility and Energy Marketing. The company operates an integrated business, with assets centered in Western New York and Pennsylvania that are utilized for the production and transportation of natural gas from the Appalachian basin. The current development activities are focused primarily in the Marcellus and Utica shales. The integrated business model enables the company to adjust to the changing commodity price environment. National Fuel Gas Company's presence across the natural gas value chain through Upstream, Midstream and Downstream activities gives it a competitive advantage and allows it to lower operating costs.
